Indie Living at CASPA
Indie Living is an independent living skills program for young people. All young people entering CASPA’s care from the age of 15 upwards will be enrolled in the program and receive information about it in their Welcome Pack.
The program aims to provide young people with independent living skills so that when they leave care at the age of 18 they will be able to lead healthy and fulfilling lives and have the confidence and skills to self-manage. CASPA’s casework system will ensure that outcomes - with key performance measures for all young people - are met at ages 15, 16, 17 and 18, respectively. The program will also consist of a series of age-appropriate workshops that address key development issues and encourage young people to follow their dreams and be prepared for adult life.
Incentives will be given for young people to attend the workshops, including certificates of attendance, vouchers for specific shops or items to contribute to their eventual independent lifestyle, such as small household items. All workshops will be designed on an active learning model and will include opportunities for young people to share knowledge and skills in a safe and encouraging environment. Participants will be encouraged to assist with the preparation of snacks and lunch provided at each workshop.
Young people in residential care will be accompanied by their Therapeutic Care Worker.
